Lewis & Raby conducts refurbishment, repair and restoration projects of vehicle bodywork for museums and heritage sites.

In the restoration pictured, we were asked to refurbish the bodywork of a mid-20th Century oil tanker.

Completely rusty sections of the tanker were removed and replaced, while smaller defects were welded and repaired.

Parts of the tanker which had not survived – such as the access ladder – were manufactured from scratch, fabricated and then fitted to the vehicle.

The tanker was shot-blasted and painted before being dispatched to our customer for final livery paintwork and installation in a museum.
